DRILL FROM A SIDEHILL LIE Hit shots from a lie where the ball is above your feet, like on the side of a fairway mogul. To make a solid strike from this lie, you have to flatten your swing. Here's a good image: Look at Trevor Immelman's backswing. His left arm is no higher than his shoulder plane. For a flatter swing, copy his move going back. | | DRILL EXTEND YOUR LEFT ARM Greg Norman sets up a shallow path into the ball with a wide takeaway. To feel this same width, practice taking the club back with your left arm only, reaching as far away from your body as you can. Then grip the club with your right hand. This is the width you want to start down with into the ball. | | DRILL FLATTEN YOUR DOWNSWING Just like the start of Jim Furyk's downswing, where he loops the club well to the inside, your goal is to pull the grip end of the club down toward the ball. This will flatten the shaft plane as you approach impact. Bumping your lead hip toward the target at the beginning of the downswing will help you make this shallowing move. |
